Price of Web sites based on changing habits of customers

The Internet allows buyers to easily compare prices in thousands of shops. But it also enables companies to collect detailed information on a purchasing decision for customers of history, preferences and financial resources - and therefore prices

So if you buy an airline ticket or a DVD player online, you can pay more - or less - the price of another customer to buy the same thing at the same location.

Why? Given that the information the site has suggested that you are perhaps willing to pay more - or less - than others for the post. Or, perhaps because the enterprise implementation of sampling methods and price tests to find out what the price is ideal for his product.

If the fare is not coincidental, but this practice - the practice of levying charges separate prices for individual consumers based on their profile - is often regarded as the Price adjustments or “dynamic” prices. But many consumers angry about the practice are of the opinion that these are simply euphemisms and unequal and unjust treatment.

In offline mode, several customers often pay different prices. But if they do, they know that, as a general rule: everyone knows the price to, say, flea markets or street bazaars can be flexible. And everyone knows that the “label” price of a car is not the purchase price classic. It serves rather as a starting point for further negotiations.

Offline, the price differences may relate to the various possibilities of haggling. Or it may be that the seller, sizing up what the customer think they can afford, or is ready to pay. Or it may have consequences on geography: National brick and mortar retailers are often more expensive to say, California as clients, we say, customers in Missouri.

Online, similar dynamics occur. But it is often less obvious than the score when, and if price differences exist, and customers have less control.

The person, to walk into a used car dealership in a costly suit and gets offered the most expensive car in the lot at an excessive price exorbitantly, probably knows exactly what happens. Furthermore, they could have avoided some of inflation by wearing torn jeans, instead of their best Armani.

But the same person, buying an airline ticket online, it may not recognize that their high salaries and expensive lifestyle are translating into expensive airline tickets. Furthermore, they can not have any possibility to negotiate or bargain, but it is inter-sellers, that competition keeps prices competitive. Online, then, Armani lifestyle may mean she pays an Armani-style price for the same ticket others are still on a reduction target of style. They can not even know it happens, even less able to control the process in a certain way.

Is this kind of “customization” legal? Should there be? These are the questions I’ll address in this column.
